SEASON PREVIEW: The Covington Buccaneers enter the 2025 season with high expectations due to the talent that is returning from a year ago where the Buccs finished 10-15 overall and tied for 4th in the TRC with a 6-8 record.
Even though the Buccaneers lost six seniors from last year, six returning varsity players to the lineup and additional talent moves up from the reserve level. The returning varsity players consists of five seniors; Tyler Jay, Tanner Palsgrove, Ashton Skaggs, Kian French and Garrett Leistner and sophomore Brairen Denson also returns to the varsity level after putting together a solid season a year ago as a freshman.
Advancing to the varsity lineup are junior Caleb Smith, along with sophomores Tyler Palsgrove, Colton Goins, Caiden Hollingsworth and Talon Pergram. Plus, four freshmen made the varsity roster; Nicholas Carnes, Finn Rogers, Hunter McMillion and Christian Skaggs.
This is also the first year as the head coach opportunity for David Heffelfinger, who already has a relationship with the players as he was an assistant coach for the Buccaneers over the past few years. Plus, assistant coach Cooper Jay returns as well and the addition of two more coaches consists of Daniel Wogoman and Justin McMillion.
